Data & Information Services

Most organisations don’t have a data problem so much as a trust problem, with too many versions of the truth, spread across too many spreadsheets, and nobody quite sure which one is right. I audit, organise and structure your data so the numbers you’re working from are the numbers that are actually correct, and I set it up so it stays that way long after I’ve gone.

Organisational data audits & gap analysis

I go through your existing data — systems, spreadsheets, exports, the lot — and map what’s actually there against what you think is there.

The gaps are usually the same: duplicate records, broken links between systems, fields nobody’s touched in two years. I find them before they find you, in front of a client or a board.

You get a plain-English diagnostic: what’s wrong, what it’s costing you, and what to fix first.

Data governance & strategy development

Good governance isn’t a policy document nobody reads. It’s a small number of rules (i.e. who owns which data, how it’s checked, how it’s kept current) applied consistently enough that your numbers stay reliable after I’ve left the building.

I build that structure around how your team actually works, not a generic template, so it survives contact with real deadlines and real staff turnover.

Where useful, that includes getting your data governance genuinely compliance-ready (GDPR and the rest) rather than compliant on paper only.

Data organisation, segmentation & categorisation

A spreadsheet with 40 tabs and three naming conventions isn’t a data asset, but a liability with a due date.

I restructure data sets into something with a logic anyone on your team can follow six months from now without asking me what a column, property or field means.

Done properly, this is the difference between finding the number, record or segment you need in ten seconds and losing an afternoon to it.

Insight extrapolation & trend forecasting

Once the data’s clean, it can tell you things, such as which segments are actually driving revenue, where a trend is turning before it shows up in the headline numbers, or what’s likely to happen next quarter if nothing changes.

I use statistical modelling, not guesswork, and I’ll tell you plainly when the data isn’t strong enough to support a forecast, which is worth knowing too.

Reporting & dashboard template builds

A dashboard that takes fifteen minutes to interpret is a dashboard nobody opens after week two. I build reporting that surfaces the handful of numbers that actually matter, updates automatically, and makes sense to whoever’s looking at it, not just to me.

When the situation calls for it, that extends to custom interactive dashboards that let your team filter and drill down themselves, rather than waiting on the next report.

Advanced data visualisation & storytelling

Some findings need more than a bar chart to land: a funding case, a board presentation, a report that has to change someone’s mind.

For those, I build visuals designed to make one clear point well, rather than showing everything at once and hoping the audience finds it.

Working together, longer term

Most of this work is strongest as an ongoing relationship rather than a single hit: an initial audit and clean-up, then embedded oversight that keeps the data honest, the reporting current, and the governance actually followed as your organisation changes. Ask about a retainer if you’d rather not be back here in a year.
